Background

In May 2017 Sue and I went to Belek in Turkey with a group of friends to play golf there. There were 16 of us in total. 16 is a good number if you are playing 5 rounds of golf as it can be arranged such that no person plays with any other person more than once and each person plays with everyone else. Belek is almost exclusively a tourist resort about 20 minute east of Antalya airport. The are many golf courses and 4-star and 5-star hotels in the area. Most of the courses have an hotel associated with them.

As in previous years we booked the trip through Golf Turkey. They are a very professional company and Hakan, who we deal with, is brilliant.

Titanic Deluxe Hotel

Lovely setting.
Following a river and a golf course there's
a 1.5km walk by the river to the beach, or
take a free 5 minute trip in a motor launch
Great 27-hole golf course.

Hakan suggested to go to the Titanic Deluxe hotel. In the past we have gone to the Sirene, but we decided we wanted a change and were not disappointed with this new hotel. We were automatically upgraded from a superior room to a deluxe one and the facilities were excellent. The rooms at the Sirene were becoming a little "tired", but that couldn't be said of the ones we had at the Titanic. Our room was quite opulent and the view from our windows, which opened onto a very large balcony, was of the golf course. We had a bed with a memory foam matress that was divine to sleep on. We found the hotel staff to be very friendly and helpful.

We had a minor problem some weeks before we went when the airline we were travelling with (Atlas Global) contacted Hakan to say that they were no longer flying on the day we had booked. This caused a mad panic to reschedule the hotel and golf courses for one day earlier than planned, but Hakan managed to do it for us. Apart from that, and the fact that that they tried to charge Roy and Chrissie for their golf clubs, even though they acknowledged that the rest of us could have our golf bags transported for free, which was sorted out, the trip went swimmingly.

A lot of new infrastructure has been built since we were last in Belek (2015). This was done for the huge EXPO 2016. There is now a new road that leads from Antalya airport direct to the golf club area and this has reduced the transfer time considerably.

Summary

This was a brilliant golfing holiday. The hotel was fantastic and the courses we played were superb. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, so much so that we are already in the thros of booking our golf holiday there again for next year.
